Can Milk Thistle Help Memory?

Updated: Mar 12, 2020

Milk Thistle is renowned for being a able to help memory, a restorer.

Below in The Daily Health is an article on how milk thistle it is used by some to help people protect themselves from Alzheimer's Disease. While we do not endorse their findings and what they claim, as we are not doctors at Himalayan Gold, we find the article interesting and useful for readers.

There is milk thistle in the Himalayan Long Life Botanicals Super Superfood - about 300 mg in a 10 gram serve. Should you suffer acute memory loss, or any other medical disorder, please consult your health care professional.

"Alzheimer’s disease turns mild memory blips into devastating memory loss: forgetting the name of your loving spouse, not knowing where home is, and even what hand to use to hold the fork when you eat.

While the mainstream is desperately trying to find that magic bullet that will put an end to Alzheimer’s, it looks like once again Nature has come up with a solution to at least help you protect your brain from Alzheimer’s damage.

Spike your memory

In this new study, Chinese researchers found that a compound from the prickly plant milk thistle can suppress many of the abnormal brain processes associated with Alzheimer’s.

We’re learning more and more about what causes Alzheimer’s as research into the disease continues and so far we know that the disease is linked to the formation of brain “plaques” and “tangles” made of excess proteins called beta amyloid.

In this latest animal study, rats were injected with beta amyloid to mimic Alzheimer’s disease. But after they were given the milk thistle compound silibinin, the rats improved significantly on memory tests like running through a maze and recognizing objects.

Based on their findings, the researchers believe that silibinin can help guard against human memory loss, too!

Previous research has identified brain abnormalities that come along with Alzheimer’s disease, including inflammation, oxidative stress, and impaired “autophagy” — which is how brain cells clear out damaged or misfolded proteins that can turn into plaques.

In the study, silibinin reversed some of these abnormalities: It reduced brain inflammation, alleviated oxidative stress, and improved autophagy.

That makes silibinin a promising candidate for protecting your brain from developing Alzheimer’s plaques in the first place.

You probably don’t want to start chewing on the spikey and thorny leaves of the milk thistle plant, and luckily you don’t need to because you can get a daily dose of silibinin by taking a milk thistle supplement in capsule form.

As always, speak to a doctor or alternative health specialist to help determine the right dose for you. Milk thistle has also been shown in studies to help protect against liver damage, kill colon cancer cells, and reduce hay fever symptoms.

But it can interact with certain drugs, so talk to your doctor before adding it to your regimen."

NOTE 1: Milk Thistle is in Super Superfood Greens 2% by volume, in Super Superfood Reds 2 % by volume, and in Super Superfood Gold it is 1.6% by volume.

NOTE 2: While these above are amazing reports, our super superfoods do not include high volumes of milk thistle. If you are ill, please go to a physician. If on the other hand, you want good health by a cross selection of good nutrition, with an associated long life, our super superfoods are available for you.
