What is Cinnamon?

Updated: Jan 11, 2021

Cinnamon appears to have a great reputation in rectifying memory loss. Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum.

Cinnamon is used mainly as an aromatic condiment and flavoring additive in a wide variety of cuisines. However, it has a great reputation in restoring memory. There are two main sources of cinnamon. The Ceylon Cinnamon has the memory rehabilitation compounds. The Chinese cinnamon, Cassia Cinnamon, does not.

We write about Ceylon cinnamon, not the Chinese cinnamon. The Chinese cinnamon is the common cinnamon found in Europe and the United States. It can aggravate liver conditions if used in high dozes. The Ceylon cinnamon is less of a problem to livers.

The cinnamon sticks you see above are the bark of the tree that has furled. The powder we use is from this bark.

Cinnamon the Disease Fighter

Ceylon cinnamon has shown that it can help fight diabetes, and even HIV, and contains cancer-fighting enzymes. Ceylon cinnamon contains anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects. These properties mean Ceylon cinnamon supports your immune health. Ceylon cinnamon was part of a study that showed it enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity.

Research on Ceylon cinnamon dates back to 1975. The research concluded Ceylon cinnamon could help blood pressure. Weakening of the heart due to problems in the cardiovascular system often causes heart disease. Ceylon cinnamon supports cardiovascular function and contributes to healthy heart function.

Cinnamon And The Brain

Cinnamon appears to improve how the brain responds to insulin. The metabolic effect also makes Ceylon cinnamon useful in neurological conditions, like Alzheimer's disease, researchers theorize. Studies that show a connection between diabetes and Alzheimer's support the idea that Ceylon cinnamon may help halt Alzheimer's onset.

Ceylon cinnamon may also help control high blood glucose levels in the brain. Hyperglycemic episodes happen in people with diabetes mellitus. This can contribute to cognitive decline. Cinnamon's properties help make sure blood glucose levels don't rise too fast.

NOTE 1: Ceylon cinnamon is in Super Superfood Greens 20% by volume, in Super Superfood Reds 10 % by volume, and in Super Superfood Gold it is 16% by volume.

NOTE 2: While these above are amazing reports, our super superfoods do not include high volumes of Ceylon cinnamon. If you are ill, please go to a physician.
